The Light

Shadows fell upon me,
like a fog, surrounding me
without so much as a whisper.
Groping, tripping, I tried to find my way.
Honestly, I did!
But my fingers caught nothing but air.
My feet felt nothing but the
cold, hard surface of stone.
Then, out of the corner of
my eye, a glimmer of light
appeared.
I turned and the light vanished.
